November 11-13, 2011 Masters of Surgical OncologyCourse OverviewTopics: Learn about the most recent advances in surgical oncology. This post-graduate course will focus on how to integrate new advances in surgical technique, cancer genetics, radiation therapy, and targeted therapies to optimally manage the cancer patient. The focus of the course will be on malignancies commonly evaluated by general surgeons and surgical oncologists. The discussions will be led by faculty from Duke as well as several internationally recognized experts and will focus on breast cancer, colorectal cancer, pancreatic cancer, melanoma, endocrine malignancies, and primary/metastatic liver tumors. There will be cases presentations, video, and interactive discussions for each of the tumor types. Target AudienceThis program is designed to meet the continuing educational needs of general surgeons and surgical oncologists as well as those who assist surgeons who manage patients with cancer. The curriculum will focus on a spectrum of oncologic problems including new operative technologies and how they are changing the management of patients with cancer, the multidisciplinary management of cancer patients, and the emerging role of genetics in the work up and management of cancer patients. The course will be beneficial to residents and fellows in general surgery or surgical oncology training as well as physician assistants and nurse practitioners who help manage cancer patients.
